Founded in 1937, UCC Choral Society is one of the largest, most active and successful societies in the college.
We rehearse every Tuesday in the Geography Lecture Theatre from 7pm to 9pm. The Geography building is located behind the Student Centre, take a right up the steps and enter the door on your right and follow straight through the double doors. New members are always welcome to join, as the choir is not audition based. Members of all ages are involved, from first year undergraduates all the way up to PhD students. There is usually a social afterwards, which is a great chance for people to get to know one another. Friends for life have been made in this Society and we hope that tradition stays for a long time!
Every year, we hold two concerts, one in each semester.
At the end of Semester One, we hold our Carols by Candlelight concert. This runs for 3 nights in the Honan Chapel on campus and is always a sell out show. For many people, it marks the beginning of the festive season.
At the end of Semester Two, we hold our Sounds of Spring concert. This is a one night event in aid of a different charity each year.
Every year, the choir travel to an International competition in the second semester. In past years, we have competed in Verona, Olamouc, Ghent, Budapest and Prague. The International Choir this year is headed to Florence on the 18th of April 2020 where they will compete against choirs all around the world. Have a look at our stunning International Choir in Budapest from last year (2019), post performance with their conductor, Ben Jacob. (This was the only place we could find shade, it was a very sunny day!)
